WanderWallet Is Now Live in Bolivia 🇧🇴
We are happy to announce that WanderWallet has officially launched in Bolivia. You can now pay with local QR rails across the country directly from this app.
We have spent some time on the ground during the launch preparations and shared some early experiences: I Went to Bolivia with Zero Cash. I Didn’t Need It. Spoiler alert: it works everywhere and saves you a lot of money!
Pay with QR Everywhere
Bolivia’s QR payment system is one of the most widely adopted in South America. Restaurants, street vendors, hotels, tour guides, taxis. Virtually every merchant accepts QR payments, even in smaller towns and markets. If you see a QR sticker on the counter, you can pay with WanderWallet. If you don’t, just ask!
Early Users Are Seeing 20-30% Savings
Bolivia has two exchange rates: the official bank rate used by cards and ATMs, and the parallel market rate that locals use at exchange offices. WanderWallet gives you a rate close to the parallel one. In our testing so far, that means 20-30% more money in your pocket compared to swiping your card or withdrawing from an ATM. For many travelers, that can mean hundreds of dollars per trip, and even more for longer stays.
How It Works
Scan the merchant’s QR code, enter the amount in Bolivianos, confirm, and you are done. The same WanderWallet experience as in the other countries. Payments are almost always instant. Show the merchant your receipt screen and you are on your way.
Help Us Test It
We are live for everyone, still in pilot, and actively monitoring performance. Please make sure you are on the latest app version to enable all the country-specific features. And please, let us know if anything misbehaves! We want to know what works and what does not, straight from people on the ground.
