WanderWallet Now Supports QR Payments via Bre-B in Colombia

News Published September 4, 2026 Updated September 5, 2026

Over the past couple of weeks we have rolled out Bre-B QR payments in Colombia, and as of September 4, 2026 they are live for every WanderWallet user there. If a merchant shows you a Bre-B QR code, scan it with WanderWallet, check the name and the amount, see the final cost shown in WanderWallet, and confirm.

Which QR Codes Work?

Look for “Bre-B” on printed QR labels, or ask the cashier to display a Bre-B QR on the card terminal. A Bancolombia, Nequi or other bank logo alone does not mean the QR is compatible: older codes may not work. If WanderWallet says the code is unsupported, ask for the merchant’s registered Bre-B key and pay by direct transfer instead. See the step-by-step payment guide.

Where You Will See a Bre-B QR

Two places. The first is one most visitors do not know about: major terminal providers support Bre-B QR payments across Colombia, including on machines you would otherwise tap a card on. Say “quiero pagar con QR” and the cashier will bring it up on the terminal screen. Supermarket self-checkouts have the same option. From our experience virtually every Redeban terminal now supports this flow (including the ones in Farmatodo, Carulla or Γ‰xito). The second is the printed QR labels you see next to cash registers everywhere. If the label says Bre-B, it works.

Not every printed QR in Colombia is a Bre-B QR yet. Banks are replacing the older ones, but it is happening merchant by merchant. Scanning alone never sends money. WanderWallet shows a message if a QR is unsupported, and a payment requires your separate confirmation. If the code is unsupported, ask for the merchant’s registered Bre-B key and pay by direct transfer instead, exactly as before.

Direct Transfers Are Unchanged

Direct transfers via Bre-B, the way WanderWallet has worked in Colombia since June, are unchanged and still the answer whenever there is no QR: rent, deliveries, small shops, anyone with a Colombian account. QR simply removes the typing.

Why It Matters

Paying with a QR in Colombia normally requires a local bank account, which visitors do not have. Now it does not. And because no foreign card is involved, the dollars-or-pesos prompt that quietly overcharges foreign cards in Colombia never appears.

As always, if you have any questions or doubts about acceptance, our support is here to help via the in-app chat.
